Scary day in the neighborhood

Yesterday was an interesting day. Kiara and I had just gotten back from grocery shopping, and Austin was at preschool. I was making lunch and Kiki was watching a movie, when I heard a knock at the door....and the doorbell rang at the same time. I thought that was a bit odd, but I opened the door anyway.....to see a policeman standing there. He said that there was a gun incident on our block and told me that I had to leave right away. I ran back to the kitchen and turned off the stove, grabbed Kiki, put her coat and shoes on, and left the house. My adrenaline was pumping like crazy, and as we were leaving, I saw that policeman running around the side of our house! As I drove along our street, I saw at least 10 cop cars on either side. There was also a cop car blocking half of the street going towards our house, and directing traffic down a side street. I drove to Austin's preschool and waited for 45 minutes til he was done. I was telling one the mom's that I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to go home, because they might still have the road blocked off. She offered for us to be able to come over if we needed to, and gave me her number. So we drove home, and all the ruckus was finished....or so we thought. I unlocked the door and opened it to see the whole house full of smoke! I ran into the kitchen to see that I had left my tea simmering on the burner.......the tea had boiled over, boiled dry and then the pot had proceeded to start melting!!! What a mess and what a smell! I opened all the windows....thankfully it was a beautiful day......but it still stinks like crazy!! It's gonna take a long time to get the smell out I think. What a crazy day!

That's insane! It's wierd to have cops come to your door hey? We had that happen as well. Someone was shot pretty much right in front of our place and we didn't hear a thing. We saw lights flashing outside so we looked out the window only to see a ton of cops outside. The whole boston pizza parking lot and most of our street was taped off and they were walking around with dogs and metal detectors. We watched for a few minutes until a cop came up and rang our doorbell. They asked us a few questions, wanting to know if we had heard or seen anything. The stupid thing is that Me, Jon and Kelly were all here and not one of us heard a thing. How can someone get shot outside your house and you don't even hear the gun go off...crazy. We had reporters knocking on our door the next day (I wouldn't talk on camera though...I'd just gotten out of the shower lol). It was more than a little disturbing.
I feel for you, and I hope that everything settles down in your neighbourhood (and the smell leaves your house). :)

I forgot to mention that this happened months ago. I was reading over my comment and realized that it sounded like it happened yesterday. :) Oops.
