Ok, I've put off blogging about last weekend long enough. Friday afternoon was busy cleaning the house so I didn't come home to a mess....I'm so my mother's daughter! Ty got home from work, and went to pay for our van, and then to get insurance. It was crazy and hectic trying to get all four kids and their stuff ready to go to Victoria. We were finally on the road, but had to stop in Duncan (about halfway inbetween) for supper. We were late picking up our food, so the fries were already cold....ewwww! We kept going and got to Victoria about 8pm, and left the kids with Ty's mom to head over to the house I would be painting all weekend. It turned out to be a much bigger job than I had estimated, and I was overwhelmed. The night didn't go so well, with both Kiki and Austin waking up coughing....I ended up only sleeping for about 4 hours. I made my way over to the house, only to find that the entry way needed a ton more work than I thought. On top of that, I was now expected to paint all the trim as well. It took all day, with a couple hours of Ty's help, to finish the entry. I didn't get done until 8:30, so I ended up working a 12 hour day. Ty, Kiki and I met the other kids and Ty's mom downtown to watch the fireworks....which Kiara hated cause it was too loud....and then walked back to where we had parked the van. Got them back to Ty's mom's and to bed, and by then it was almost midnight. I was up and working by 9 again, and worked a 10 hour day. By the end of it, it was fairly obvious there was no way I was going to finish what we had talked about getting done. There were a couple of walls that had just been built, and the mud on them was never going to be done and dry before Monday evening when I was leaving. Went to bed late that night again, and back to work the next morning around 8:30. I plugged away and got done all I could, and around 5pm, Mike (the guy that owned the house and was contracting himself) deceided that he should take the counter off so I could paint down behind. The only problem was, it need to be sanded and holes filled.....and I was leaving at 6pm! There was no way that the mud would be even dry before I had to leave! He was completely disorganized, and had too many people scheduled too close together. I really shouldn't have been in there painting til after the carpenter was done putting up the walls! Oh well, I got paid $800 for three days of work.....still not bad! It's just a lesson to me for if I ever do that again.....always look at the job before you deceide on a price. So the next adventure will be this weekend....we're camping with all four kids at Ty's cousin Clint's acreage.....and then next Wednesday I leave for Alberta! Exciting stuff! Can't wait.
